Conversation from the road.
While driving on Interstate 40 today, Max asked for one of his toys, an ambulance with a siren, which I had next to me in the front seat.
Me: Sure. Here you go.
Max: Thank you, daddy.
Max: I want my fire truck now.
Me: Oh Max, we didn't bring it with us. It's at home.
Max: Why?
Me: We forgot it, I guess. I didn't know you would want it.
Max: Stop the car.
Me: Stop the car?
Max: Let me out.

Dinner conversation.
On the road today, we stopped at a drive-through to eat. I ordered Max a Happy Meal.
Me: What do you want to eat first? Do you want the apple slices or chicken nuggets?
Max: The toy.

A potty-training conversation with Max.
I just encountered Max in the hallway, naked from the waist down with a wet spot at the bottom of his shirt, which is too big and hangs to his thighs.
Me: Max, did you take your pants off?
Max: Yes.
Me: Lift up your shirt. Did you take your diaper off?
Max: Yes (which he confirms by lifting his shirt).
Me: Max, did you pee?
Max: Yes.
Me: Where did you pee?
Max: (Pointing.) Over there. I peed in my room.
Me: On the floor?
Max: Yes.
Me: Good job, Max.

Max chasing geese.
He would run forever if they didn’t fly away.

Conversation from earlier tonight.
Max: Where's the moon?
Me: It's not up yet.
Max: Why?
Me: We just can't see it yet.
Max: Why?
Me: Because it's too early for the moon.
Max: Why?
Me: Because it hasn't risen over the horizon. We can't see it because it's on the other side of planet earth.
Silence.

Today was a miserable day in Charlotte.
Clarissa is out of town. And it rained. It’s still raining, and it’s been like this since Friday morning.
The day started off nice. Max slept until almost 10 a.m. But he quickly grew restless at the house, so I had to find something to do.
I took him to Monkey Joe’s, which is like Chuck E. Cheese but with bouncy houses. (The video...
